FCPH celebrates Alcohol Awareness Month and National Public Health Week April 4-10
Every week, Robyn Litke Sall of Fargo Cass Public Health, along with an area law enforcement officer, educate employees of alcohol serving establishments in the FM area about over serving, deterring underage purchase, spotting false IDs and recognizing when someone is intoxicated. The program is called Server Training, and from 2011 through 2105, 11,729 servers have gone through the program.
According to Litke Sall, “Responsible beverage service training programs such as Server Training have been shown to be an effective strategy for reducing alcohol consumption as part of a multi-component intervention.”
Along with Server Training, the alcohol abuse prevention program also includes random alcohol compliance checks of Cass county on sale/off-sale establishments, and a monthly Victim Impact Panel-where victims of drunk driving crashes address recent DUI and DWI offenders who are mandated to attend. Since 2011, 4,801 DUI/DWI offenders have attended the Victim Impact Panel.
